My experience is right the opposite one.  With each release SuSE
tries to comply a little bit more with some obscure standard for
structuring the subdirectories in the root. Admittedly, they make up
for changing the location and names of many a (config) file by
lithering a lot of directories with (sym)links. Which often makes it
a burden to find (memorize?) the original location of a specific file.
