Yes it would be possible to boot from a cdrom.

You would have to make a bootable ramdisk image with mknbi and
then make the cdrom image bootable using the el torito method.
For rom-o-matic you should just need to put this image into a
bootable cdrom image ala el torito.

Refer to the initrd_tools in the ltsp distro for help in making
the boot image. mkisofs for making the el torito image.  I think
the mkisofs has a readme in its documentation on howto make an el
torito bootable iso image.  If you need more help, ask and I can give you
some more explicit instructions.

lastly you will need to use cdrecord to burn the iso image onto a
cd.
