I keep hearing that 3D over X isn't feasible, but I have no idea where
these people are coming from.  X has a very long history of being used for
3D rendering.  I personally saw X clients used at Universal Studios and
MGM Studios with Maya 4 running on Beowolf clusters.  I also saw it on
X terminals attached to Sparc boxes in the Army.  

The vast majority of the processing of 3D is performed in the hardware of
the 3D excelerated video card.  Theoretically, this means that many OpenGL
applications could be faster than 2D applications.  

Why do people say this is not feasible?  X isn't a bitmap protocol, it's
more like postscript.
