I keep hearing that 3D over X isn't feasible, but I have no idea where these people are coming from. X has a very long history of being used for 3D rendering. I personally saw X clients used at Universal Studios and MGM Studios with Maya 4 running on Beowolf clusters. I also saw it on X terminals attached to Sparc boxes in the Army.
The vast majority of the processing of 3D is performed in the hardware of the 3D excelerated video card. Theoretically, this means that many OpenGL applications could be faster than 2D applications. Why do people say this is not feasible? X isn't a bitmap protocol, it's more like postscript. --Matthew _____________________________________________________________________ Ltsp-discuss mailing list.
