Regarding cheap PCs to use as thin clients, do a search on eBay for "Dell
Optiplex GS".
These are Pentium 133Mhz, 166Mhz, and 200Mhz computers (depending on
configuration) with S3 Trio 64 on-board video. Most come with a 3Com PCI
network adapter. I know the S3 chipsets don't work with XFree86 v4.0, but
LTSP runs fine with them using XFree 3.3.
The best thing about these machines is they're practically giving them away.
Lots of them are just over 3 years old now, coming off of lease deals - and
so they're dumping them on eBay for as little as $25.00 each. They're
well-built computers, and will easily last another few years.
