That's because in inittab, it is just said to start bash. runlevel 3 is intended for debugging at the the workstation and not for real use. > Is there a way to get the login prompt? Not on the workstation. There is nothing set up on the workstation to authenticate users (unless you use local_apps but that's a totally different subject). Authentication is done by the ltsp X server (or by the ssh or telnet server). Everything is run as root on the workstation.
