that happens after a timeout, which is normally 5 minutes on SuSE-Linux,
You can set it yourself 
in /etc/X11/xdm/xdm-config  :

DisplayManager.*.pingInterval: 1
DisplayManager.*.pingTimeout: 3


In /etc/X11/xdm/Xreset  you can use the tool "slay" (you can find it on 
freshmeat.net)
to ensure that really all processes of that User will be terminated:

slay $USER
