Earlier this year, there was an ongoing discussion about problems in getting
autologin to work on terminals with kdm (KDE).
At the time, Rois Cannon was (desparately) reporting his problems in getting
this setup to work, but as far as I can see, the thread end around 23 March
without results.
I am facing a similar problem and have tried everything that I can find in
the archives without results.
Was Rois' problem ever fixed, or did he give up?
Is there any detailed documentation on how the login-mechanism works with
kdm? I seems like I am missing one little thing somewhere, which was not yet
covered in the archives.
I am almost certain that it has something to do with the way the name of my
terminal ("ws004") is used to resolve the configuration from the
"kdmrc"-file, and I followed a lead from the March archives indicating the
domain-name (none in my case) may be appended to the name of the workstation;
but no results.
Unfortunately, I do not know how to track the login-process in detail, eg.
where it is parsing the kdmrc-file for configuration info. If I'd know where
to look and see what's going on, I should be able to put the finger on the
problem.
