Under X you can stretch it vertically to be able to see more traffic. But if it's serious, head-down, figure-out-the-protocol stuff, ethereal does a great job. It also runs in X, and much like the hex editors of old, it tears apart the data and lets you see it both in the actual bytes in the packets, as well as what they mean. It's very good, and reveals just how much one doesn't really know about the details of TCP/IP/UDP/etc traffic that's really there. :) And if you just want something cool to quantify the traffic and the hosts involved, there's a project called etherape. It shows the hosts that are communicating with graphical (3d) cones relating to the amount of traffic. All of these tools are available through Freshmeat of course, and I'm pretty sure they're available through APT for Redhat. (That's one SWEET package. No wonder the Debian people like it so much!) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Brian Fahrländer Linux Zealot, Conservative, and Technomad Evansville, IN My Voyage: http://www.CounterMoon.com ICQ 5119262 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ STOP THE FLOW OF OIL AND HATE FROM SAUDI ARABIA. ------------------------------------------------------- Sponsored by: ThinkGeek at http://www.ThinkGeek.com/ _____________________________________________________________________ Ltsp-discuss mailing list.
