Greetings all,

I'm trying to get NIS up and running for my ltsp setup(b/c I have some
"fat-clients") and I'm having a bit of trouble. I can create the users
using useradd, then run make in /var/yp. No biggie. However, when I
try to give the user a password, or if I want to change the password,
this is what I get:
$passwd test
Changing password for user test
New password:
Retype new password:
RPC: Can't encode arguments
The password has not been changed on jmullman.lib.gasou.edu.
passwd: Failed preliminary check by password service

I'm guessing this is because of me using shadow passwords. Then again,
the How-To is only four years old and using software which has been
outdated just as long... which as a side note is quite interesting as I
would imagine it's a fairly widely used service.

Anyway, I'm using RH7.2 apt-get'ed to a fairly secure, stable state.
Any adivice/help would is greatly appreciated.

Thanks
