Hi,

Sounds like what I did a couple of days. I had the latest LTSP installed and 
went to get the sound package. When I clicked on the "Download" link from the 
main LTSP page it took me to the general LTSP download page of sourceforge.

I scrolled down and found the ltsp sound file under Extras -- had the same 
problem as you when I ran it. 

Turns out the listing under Extras is the old version. The new LTSP sound 
package is up above, under 3.0 TGZ.

That one seems to have installed correctly (although I had messed around so 
much trying to get the wrong one to work that I decided to do fresh install -- 
I'll know more tomorrow).
