Hello

Some of our customers were really surprised when we show them the
capabilities of LTSP together with the Jammin-125 Thin Client. Thanks to
Jim an his team. They would diserve the noble prize for efficient Thin
Client Computing with OSS components ;) First of all we bought the
Jammin-125 from X-Diskless Workstation.com
(http://www.disklessworkstations.com/). I have no complaints about this
company, they served us very well. But our company is located in
Switzerland and buying this device in US had a negativ impact on the
price (shipping fees and several taxes). For this reason we had to
looking for another way to buy the Jammin-125. So here is our
solution/suggestion: The orginal manufacturer of the Jammin-125 is
Optoma Ltd. In fact the Jammin-125 is the Optoma Thin Client Model
ST-320. The only difference to the Jammin-125 is that Optoma ST-320 has
integrated CE 3.0 or CE 4.0 as Operating System and some other
SW-related goodies like an integrated browser (IE 5.5 ?), a Terminal
Emulation and is supporting RDP and ICA Protocols. All these things are
great if you need to integrate the Optoma ST-320 into a M$-Environement.
If you want to use the ST-320 thin client with LTSP you only have to
replace the CE-stuff which is stored on a EEPROM (Disk on Chip Module)
by a Etherboot image. We did this by ourselves but I think if you ask
Optoma Europe (http://www.optoma.co.uk/) maybe they would do this for
you. Beside this it's good to know when you don't need all the M$-CE
stuff you don't have to pay seperate license fees to M$. This could have
an positive impact on the price, how knows? As far as I know Optoma has
in many European countrys official distributors. In Switzerland thats
Sacom SA (www.sacom.ch). Have a look on Optomas web and find out more
news about theyre thin client solutions.
