I'm new to the forum, but I thought I'd contribute what I found. This is the fastest site I have found for getting Mandrake 9.0 ftp://mirrors.secsup.org/pub/linux/mandrake/Mandrake/iso/
My test computer has 16x CD rom. I checked everything I think (it didn't use the 3rd CD disk maybe foreign language?) Install time on the screen said 16 minutes but it was definately under 30 minutes. Redhat 7.2 or 7.3 takes forever compared to this. (As a comparison I was burning CD #2 at 10X, I thought I had plenty of time and when the burn was done the install was asking for disk #2.) My processor in this computer is an AMD XP 2000+. I'm not sure where Apache is and some others but when I went for updates it loaded one for Apache so it must be there somewhere along with the other programs. My generic wheelmouse doesn't work so I had to make it a 2 button mouse. As for auto finding my printer on my XP box perhaps I have the printer sharing turned off or am not knowledgeable why the function doesn't work. I would play with other stuff but in some of the recent posts it mentioned some other type of Linux was better in server performance than Red Hat so I am going to work with this. I hope LTSP and Mandrake ver 9 play together nicely. It would be nice to get out of Windows and have something go right. I hope this contributation helps others, Bruce Gaylord (Gaillard) ------------------------------------------------------- This sf.net email is sponsored by:ThinkGeek Welcome to geek heaven. http://thinkgeek.com/sf _____________________________________________________________________ Ltsp-discuss mailing list.
