Hmmm ... I know I've seen frequently used binary software 
loaded into memory using the "preload" command from the 
rc.* scripts.  The "ThinkNIC" distribution preloads lots
of software this way before giving a session over to the
user.

I think it would be reasonable to use this to boot an LTSP
app server with the most commonly used software already 
loaded into memory (OpenOffice, Mozilla, Evolution, and so
on).

I'm interested in creating a server-based LTSP distribution
intended for app servers to boot and run from CD-ROM and
getting persistant data from the network via NFS and LDAP.
I started corresponding with Tom Lisjac <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
about this, but in a "Knoppix" context.  He has a distribution
that does something along these lines.

Anybody know about other efforts along these lines?
