I'm serious when I say this, especially since it worked before, but ... Reinstall Windows! :) With Win4Lin, especially, it's very easy to recover when Windows corrupts itself. All you have to do is make a pristine install into a "test" user's $HOME directory (or the first time you install it to each user's $HOME directory) and tar up the ~/win directory. Then, when things like this occur, or it's obvious that Windows has trashed itself or its registry, you simply copy off the user's data, untar their pristine install back into their $HOME directory and then move their data back into place.
