All,

I'm running a new install of LTSP4 on a SuSE-9.0 server. The server is
running a home-built 2.4.25 kernel and LTSP is using its stock 2.4.21
kernel.

When I log in as the only user currently in dhcpd.conf I get a login
screen (wdm) and I can log in to the desktop (qvwm.) But after 20
seconds the X session freezes. This happens regardless of whether I
actually log in or just sit at the login screen, and moving the cursor
randomly also changes nothing.

I'm using the LTSP's XF_SVGA-for-3.3.6 server. We run mostly HP Vectras
with cirrus chipsets and the occasional S3. Another, LTSP3, install we
have has never exhibited this type of behavior. Here's some extra stuff:

dhcp leasetime is the default (21600.)

client swapfile_size = 48m

/etc/dhcpd.conf looks good

/usr/local/ltsp4/i386/etc/lts.conf looks correct

I have build_x3_cfg in /usr/local/ltsp4/i386/etc

We're pointing at the correct server IP Addr.

/etc/messages shows a successful negotiation of dhcp, hostname and IP
Addr, and displays no errors at the moment of client freeze.

The server is unaffected and at low load during all of this.

If anybody can shed some light here I'd appreciate it. I'll be going at
it again tomorrow with a new switch to see if we're losing the one
currently in use. There might be some gotcha in ltsp4 that my experience
with ltsp3 has not taught me; I'm not a guru at either.
