Hi All :

(Sorry for the somewhat lenghty post)

Env : LTSP 4.0.0 Fedore Core 1 Up-to-date / Gnome 2.4.0
/home is a symbolic link to /mnt/ncp.

Everything is working fine but for some technical reason I now want to have the .Xauthority file NOT in /$HOME/.Xauthority

when I put
XAUTHORITY="/mnt/ncp/user1/.Xauthority"
in the .bash_profile of user1 all goes well

I didn't expect another result because /home/user1/.Xauthority = /mnt/ncp/user1/.Xauthority

If I change the .bash_profile for user1 to
XAUTHORITY="/mnt/ncp/user1/.Xauthority22"
Login goes but X stops right away, sending me back to the login screen :-(

I don't get any clue as to what is going on from the logs.
In messages I see :

Apr 27 08:56:32 linuxtse gdm(pam_unix)[28854]: session opened for user test10 by (uid=0)
Apr 27 08:56:32 192.168.10.253 ltspinfod: Connection from 192.168.10.1 port 35888
Apr 27 08:56:32 linuxtse gdm(pam_unix)[28854]: session closed for user test10

The XFree and gdm logs stay empty.

I hope somebody has done this before (putting .Xauthority in /tmp for example) and can put some light on this.

Thanks

Pete
