All,

I would just like to share my experiences using yum "upgrade" to upgrade
from Fedora Core 1 to Fedora Core 2. I had K12LTSP with Fedora Core 1
installed:

Don't know if the first step is necessary, but did it anyway:

1.) Did a yum update on the current install so that it was at the
current patch level for the old Fedora version.

2.) Changed the yum.conf file to look in the Fedora Core 2 directory
structure for files.

3.) Did a yum upgrade

The server works like a champ. I was interested to see what would
happen, since there were a number of updates and outright changes to the
running processes, new libraries and a new kernel.

The only hiccup I've had is that the switch from XFree86 to Xorg, gives
me an error on startx. Clicking out of the error, the workstation and
server all work fine. Interestingly, the Xorg config file came up
missing after the yum upgrade.

This was an experiment on a non-production server, so I wouldn't
recommend the process on a production unit, but we have 14 server
implementations across 3 states, so at some point I do want to be able
to use the upgrade feature to upgrade installations. We'll see if that
ever happens.

Cheers,
