A quick but not optimal solution is to try the "vesa" driver instead (XSERVER
= "vesa"), and see how well (or rather, how bad) it performs.

/etc/vidlist is only useful if you specify "auto" as XSERVER, so until you
 get it working don't care about that, it won't help.

The i810 driver requires the agpgart module loaded, I don't know if this is
done automatically (I vaugely remember LTSP doing so, but I'm not sure),
anyways, try adding MODULE_01 = "agpgart" (with XSERVER = i810) and see if it
helps.
