1. Create a vnc session in /etc/xinetd.d/vnc on the server

Thanks Darryl for this great tip.

I've tried to get this working but have failed. I must have missed a step somewhere.

If I login to the server and start vncserver, then go to the client and run vncviewer it works no problem.

Try substituting the server name from localhost to its real name or ip address.

However if I try to connect to the port xinetd is listening on it just disconnects straight away. I.E Inet is listening but I suspect that Xvnc is failing in some way (Launching xdm I guess).

$ vncviewer ltsp_server:50
vncviewer: VNC server closed connection

LTSP is working and the diskless clients get an Xdm login so the xdmcp stuff is working. There is nothing in the syslog for xinetd. Is there another log somewhere that would be more helpful?

What port does xdmcp listen on?

xdmcp 177/tcp # X Display Mgr. Control Proto

Do I have to do something to Xvnc so that it doesn't need vncpassword or does the -query flag take care of that?

The vncpassword is disabled by securitytypes=none
Make sure that the server args are on one line not linewrapped like in the mail
server_args = -inetd -query ltssrv02 -geometry 1000x700 -depth 16 -cc 3 -once securitytypes=none -fp unix/:7100

Thanks

P.
