I use the lines

[pxe003]
 XF86CONFIG_FILE = XF86Config.pxe003

in lts.conf to specify a config file rather than have it auto generated. This proved to be the only way to get the specific modelines I wanted. Specifying mode lines didn't work. I think it was interfered with by our monitors DDC responses, and I didn't know how to turn this off in lts.conf.

In any case, GL acceleration does not work when the config is generated automatically or static, it makes no difference.

The "server" is on the client in X, if that makes any sense.
So the xorg config on the server doesn't make any difference, you are right.
The client config file is created is generated in /tmp, its not static.
That means this is probably an lts.conf editing issue to get dri and glx working, not editing the Xorg config file itself.
