Andy, You can't use the older ltsp-4.1.x kernels with LTSP-4.2
The ltsp-4.2 kernel has an initramfs file that builds the /etc/inittab file during the boot process. If you use an older kernel, you won't get the inittab file, and you won't have udev and alot of other things that LTSP-4.2 requires. So basically, use the newer kernels.
