Geez!

Fair enough, well just don't use it then. Sorry to read about the finger,
stupid mistake or act of demons, still hurts the same.

Last weekend, a couple of people took exception to a comment I made about
the BSD daemon mascot. By the time I was able to formulate a response, the
thread had continued well on its way, and I didn't think it was appropriate
to distract the course it was on. Then between having a table saw accident
that shortened one of my fingers a little bit last Monday, and having to
start moving out LTSP workstations the next day, ahead of schedule, I
haven't had time to even think about it.

But it is Sunday, and now that things have slowed down here a bit, I thought
it only right to respond to their statements, for the record, with a note
that if anyone has more to say about it, it might be better to email me
privately about it.

If you were a demon, and you wanted to influence a person's life so that
when they die, you could drag their soul down to hell to be tormented
eternally, how would you do it? Wouldn't it be easiest if you were to first
deceive the person into believing that you don't exist, or that you're not a
threat, or how about even, that you are their FRIEND?

How many people even think about demons these days? And if they do, how
many really take them seriously?

Do you think about them every day? I assure you, they work very hard,
tirelessly and unremittingly, to steal every one of our souls. They never
sleep, and they never give up.

There is no such thing as a friendly daemon, no matter how you portray them,
or what erroneous belief you may have about them. They are ALL evil beyond
anyone's ability to comprehend.

As a monk, I fight them all day, every day. (My shortened finger is a
visible example of that.) As a priest-monk, I watch them wreak havoc in
other people's lives in their efforts to destroy them; and when necessary, I
try to help the people in their afflictions.

We have a monastery located about twenty miles from Buena Vista, Colorado,
bordering the Saint Elizabeth (San Isabel) National Forest. The Buena Vista
School District has the daemons for their school mascot. Whenever someone
new comes to town, and tries to get them to change it, they meet with
absolutely volatile resistance from the long time BV residents.

I heard a couple of months ago that they have one of the worst problems with
drug and alcohol abuse in the entire state. I think that is very sad --
really... to see so many young people's lives messed up so badly is very
sad -- but when you have the demons for a mascot, can you really expect
more?

I can show you icons that were painted seven hundred years ago that portray
demons; and a lot of kids today look just like them.

So no, my friend, while I appreciate your post, I won't be looking at BSD as
long as they have demons for their mascot.

With kind regards,

Peter, hieromonk
