You didn't mention what version of OpenOffice you're using, and I 
couldn't find the version quickly on the K12LTSP page.  OOo 1.1/Debian 
works fine, as well as StarOffice 7.  I don't have 2.x available to test. 

I've never had OOo issues with any kernels, but I have had problems with 
font settings on the terminal's X server.  Check to see if any 
presentation fails:  create a new one with a single page and simple 
fonts and see if it fails.  

Also, check the OOo settings to see if OpenGL or other graphics settings 
are turned on, perhaps it's trying to use OpenGL for the fullscreen mode 
and failing.  I believe the OpenGL settings are in OOo | View under 
options.  2.x may have other options that I can't see.
