This indeed solved my problem, thank you. There is some information on the NFS page that probably belongs on the Troubleshooting page, but I cannot use that as an excuse as I hadn't read the wiki anyway :-) I had plans of using pxegrub as well, but that does not seem mature at the moment. I want to set up the client LDAP libraries for fat diskless, as the client environment now makes it easy to add packages. I think this means a read-only /usr, nfs-mounted /home, swap and /tmp on local disk. I am thinking / and /var are probably one filesystem per client, mounted r/w off the fileserver.
