I'm assuming you're using ltsp-4.2.  If so, then 2.6.18 isn't one of our
kernels.  We use 2.6.16.

You are incorrect, unless you've done something different.

sputnik$ cd /opt/ltsp-4.2/i386/lib/udev/
sputnik$ ls -l ide_media 
-rwxr-xr-x  1 root root 7644 Apr  3  2006 ide_media

So, it's there on my installation of 4.2


So, at this point, not sure what you're doing.  Try going through the
checklist on the wiki, but if you've been changing things like the
kernel, there's no guarentee what will happen.
