Unfortunately, I'm replying to my own post.  I read the instructions at
http://wiki.ltsp.org/twiki/bin/view/Ltsp/Debian#Printing_with_LTSP_5_and_Debian,
and integrated lp_server instead of jetpipe, just to see if it was a
jetpipe-specific problem.  I get exactly the same behaviour with
lp_server.  Basically, a hang on write() according to strace, then
output of a corrupted page, then lp_server vanished from the ps ax list,
so I assume it crashed.

Does anyone know about lp_server / jetpipe crashes?  Everything I've
read just alludes to it working with no issues.  Surely I'm not the only
person in the world to have seen this.  I'll do anything to debug it, if
someone in the know can give me a clue.  :)
