Unfortunately, I'm replying to my own post. I read the instructions at http://wiki.ltsp.org/twiki/bin/view/Ltsp/Debian#Printing_with_LTSP_5_and_Debian, and integrated lp_server instead of jetpipe, just to see if it was a jetpipe-specific problem. I get exactly the same behaviour with lp_server. Basically, a hang on write() according to strace, then output of a corrupted page, then lp_server vanished from the ps ax list, so I assume it crashed. Does anyone know about lp_server / jetpipe crashes? Everything I've read just alludes to it working with no issues. Surely I'm not the only person in the world to have seen this.
