It may be "possible" but not practical or advisable. A diskless terminal needs
to get it's boot info from a bootp/dhcp server, then the terminal gets it
kernel via tftp, then it mounts it's root directory via nfs and finally
attaches to a host via XDMCP (or LDM).
Running all these protocols over a WAN is problematic from both a
bandwidth/latency and from a security perspective. It is just not a good
idea.
It is more advisable to make WAN connections using a more efficient and secure
protocol either from a locally supported (LAN based) terminal or from a fat
client (stand-alone computer) using something like NX. K12LTSP has "freenx"
in it's repositories (the server piece) and nomachine.com has the (free)
client piece. NX uses the ssh protocol for transport (strong encryption) and
utilizes heavy-duty buffering and compression to allow remote connections
over low speed (i.e. as low as dialup) connections.
