I was pretty 'up' on LTSP 4. I remember a great deal of messing with it at Lee Lumber of Chicago, for example. I even used it to turn Ace Hardware onto LTSP.
But now I've loaded LTSP5. Wow. The process is blindlingly easy. SO EASY, it's hard, if you've done it before. :) The current problem though, is attempting to lock down a couple of users, so that their home directories are empty upon exit. It wouldn't seem hard; .bash_logout should be able to do that, but with the two that are aboard the server do nothing as far as I can tell. Populating /etc/skel doesn't seem to matter, either. In either of them. And I hate to say the words hard-working programmers hate to hear: the docs really suck. It's not so much that it's required- that was the world under 4.x; this is for certain features. The autodiscover ROCKS. It's clear a lot of work has been going on, since I was away. So how do I go about 'locking down' a client? Which controls are really there? Sabayon and Ressulus act like they do things- they don't. How can so much be so ineffective? It must be me! I stopped the screen saver by removing the package. But I want to remove all the contents of the home directory (start fresh) upon logout. It'd also be nice to lock the screen (tabs, etc) but if it'll dump on exit, none of that's needed. We're on the up-to-date Ubuntu Hardy.
