I got sound working (only tested in Rhythmbox) by creating
/etc/asound.conf and filling it with:

pcm.!default {
          type pulse
  }

  ctl.!default {
          type pulse
  }

Note that /usr/share/doc/ltsp-server/README.Debian.sound says to add
those lines to /etc/asound.conf (implying that /etc/asound.conf already
exists), but I had to create the file.

Sound works for the 2 users I tested. My question is regarding the
volume control icon on the panel. My first user who logs in can access
the volume control, but it doesn't do anything. The second user who
logs in cannot access the volume control at all.

I assumed I was using pulseaudio and that I needed a special volume
control for it, but now I see that pulseaudio is not installed on the
server (libpulse0 is installed, though). Pulseaudio is installed in the
chroot, though. So I guess I'm confused about how sound works on LTSP
5. If someone could explain it, that would be great. If someone could
just point me to a volume control package that will work for me, that
would be great too. Extra credit for giving me a graphic equalizer or
other type of tone control.

Thanks

-Rob
