Before I tried LDM_XSESSION, I had tried using LDM_SESSION="ubuntu-2d" 
this did not work in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. But perhaps the correct value for 
LDM_SESSION would have been: LDM_SESSION=”gnome-session 
-–session=ubuntu-2d”.
