As we posted, we found the solution: configure qt correctly.
Now, it works perfectly with Ubuntu 12.04.
Upgrading to at least a lts version is necessary for us: recent versions of compilers, of libraries, of libreoffice, of tekmaker and so on...

Thanks

I know it's not very helpfull, but 8.04 with lts4.2 works like a dream.
You have to have some clients with at least 256MB and preferably 500mb
for 12.04 to perform.
For me it's the applications that are important. If the o/s is stable I
don't need to upgrade.

We switched recently from Ubuntu 10.04 to Ubuntu 12.04 (servers, ltsp
    server, ltsp client).

Since then, our system as turned *extremely* *slow*; the worst is
attained when using KDE products like Kile (not only when logged in the
KDE environment, but also in Gnome), which cannot be used (wait some
    seconds when moving the mouse!).

It seems that, since we upgraded, there is a huge X11 traffic between
    the server and the clients.

Also: we tried the *new* client system (ltsp from Ubuntu 12.04),
connecting to "old" servers (10.04): everything works reasonably fast.

It seems that the problem comes from the servers (12.04). Does anybody
    has encountered such problem?

A capture of the X11 traffic between a 12.04 server and a client can be
    found there:
    http://math.univ-lyon1.fr/homes-www/tdumont/capture/

Our clients are very classical machines like hp thin clients.

    Than you in advance.
