Such platform-specific field in a rockspec would not hurt. Only LR'd have to branch that field by Distribution ID or something on Linux — package names vary wildly. (Note that the field is useful even without actual checking — as it can be done outside of LR. Maintaining a Distribution ID can be a PITA though.)
