It is very convenient. I used to worry about imposing Git on users, but that's not an issue for publishing to the repo, since Hisham will make a rock anyway, and otherwise it's developers and you can expect them to have Git these days. Another option which works very well for me is github-pages. Very straightforward to host files using plain HTTP and excellent for the on-line versions of documentation.
