It looks like your LuaRocks is out of date: the error message is old.
Could you update to the latest LuaRocks? It's easier to fix the problem
there than with an old version.
Also, I notice that the latest Alien 0.7.1 is not released as a LuaRock, so
I've filed a bug asking for an update.
