This coming Saturday, August 20, we have a lab install scheduled at Halau Lokahi, a public charter school. http://www.halaulokahi.org/ This will be HOSEFs first public charter school lab install. We need all the help we can get if we are to finish on Saturday so the lab is ready for students to start using on Monday.
Halau Lokahi is very different from the traditional style of schooling. Classes are small and are generally help outside in the open air. They don't have a set building like most K-12 schools so they lease out office space and create classrooms and offices from that space. The charter schools are in a unique position within the school system because they don't have strong ties with the regular DOE. This allows them to be more open to possibilities. The plan is for the school to eventually be entirely open source based from the administration level to the student level. This Saturday we'll be setting up a 20 client lab for regular classes and 2 smaller mini labs for individual work. We need help moving 2 printers, 20 thin clients, 25 monitors, 30 KBs and 30 mice from McKinley Adult School 634 Pensacola St http://maps.yahoo.com/maps_result?addr=634 +pensacola&csz=96814&country=us&new=1&name=&qty= to Halau Lokahi 401 Hart St http://maps.yahoo.com/maps_result?addr=401+hart+st&csz=honolulu%2C +hi&country=us&new=1&name=&qty= We'll meet at McKinley by 10am to start loading up the equipment for transport to the charter school. The schools building is on the corner of Hart and Waiakamilo. The school is located on the first floor of the Ewa side of the building. Parking is mauka of the building. Please let me know if your planning on coming so I can plan out how many trips we'll need to take. Michael 429-3030
