Regarding to the menu editor, actually there is an easy fix. To fork gnome menu editor and have it loads lxde-applications.menu file instead of gnome's applications.menu. It's written in python and patching this won't be too difficult. However, maintaining a fork for such a project just to do this trivial thing is a waste. A better approach is to patch gnome menu editor, and have them load other menu files when possible. Anyone want to do this? It's in python so I'm sure this should not be too difficult. Doing this will bring gnome-menus dependency, though.
