You're fine. If there is an issue you will see it right away, either during the install or at first boot after the install. Your approach probably works fine too, I've just never done it that way. My suggested approach leaves the screensaver configuration set exactly the way it was -- it just kills any currently running screensaver processes so they can't get in the way during the installation. To me, that's easier than (1) change the config; (2) complete install; (3) remember what the old settings were, so you can (4) change the config back again later.
