I think that once Saucy will be released, there will be a working version of Unetbootin for it. usb-creator-kde is also an alternative. (Last time I tried usb-creator-gtk it worked, but it is still flaky.) But it is good to know, there is another alternative. I have not used the deb version of 'live-usb-install'. Otherwise, dd is always a good alternative for the Ubuntu 12.04+ versions. I use it with 'mkusb' to reduce the risk to write to the wrong drive. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1958073 But if you need persistence, dd is no alternative, because it clones the read-only file system of a CD. Finally, the pendrivelinux method with grub 2 works well. This is what I use in the Lubuntu fake-PAE 'grub-n-iso' method https://help.ubuntu.com/community/grub-n-iso and this works with 'all' computers to install Lubuntu 32-bit systems (except very old pre-pentium II and very new computers with UEFI).
