Sometimes suppliers won't say they support some version because they delay on testing that. But I am pretty sure that drivers for 14.04 will work right away for 16.04
I have been using Brother DCP-7065DN on Lubuntu 16.04, and I have downloaded the deb files from brother website years ago... I am not sure if Brother stated version 14.04 was supported by the time I downloaded... Give it a try, if you have any errors or something, tell us here...
