I had the same problem when I started. It seems the tags in the Subversion
tree are the way to go. I don't mind compiling the source code.

For starters it definitely would be nice to have a version marked as the
latest stable version together with binaries on the web site. I wonder how
many people give up on Lucene.Net immediately because they can't figure out
where to start. I almost would have.
