We've got a lucene search index that we use to search (and delete) a couple thousand items. It runs fine for a few days, and then it complains about "Too Many Open Files". I am running on Red Hat 7.3. The user that the webserver runs as, has an unlimited number of files it can open. That's what makes this error so strange. We're optimizing the index every hour, also. I saw in the old lists that several people have had this problem, but there was no solid answers as to how to fix it. Any ideas out there? TIA.
The error in the logs is: java.io.FileNotFoundException: /home/foobar/index/_dh2.f5 (Too many open files) at java.io.RandomAccessFile.open(Native Method) at java.io.RandomAccessFile.<init>(RandomAccessFile.java:204) at org.apache.lucene.store.FSInputStream$Descriptor.<init>(FSDirectory.java:389) at org.apache.lucene.store.FSInputStream.<init>(FSDirectory.java:418) at org.apache.lucene.store.FSDirectory.openFile(FSDirectory.java:291) at org.apache.lucene.index.SegmentReader.openNorms(SegmentReader.java:388) at org.apache.lucene.index.SegmentReader.<init>(SegmentReader.java:151) at org.apache.lucene.index.SegmentReader.<init>(SegmentReader.java:120) at org.apache.lucene.index.IndexReader$1.doBody(IndexReader.java:122) at org.apache.lucene.store.Lock$With.run(Lock.java:148) at org.apache.lucene.index.IndexReader.open(IndexReader.java:111) at org.apache.lucene.index.IndexReader.open(IndexReader.java:99) at org.apache.lucene.search.IndexSearcher.<init>(IndexSearcher.java:75) .....
