So, Kiggs, with Mango Xtra's new rates, what's the maths this time :-)

First I would like to ask everyone NOT TO FORWARD THIS EMAIL.
I had enough problems with the other one.
It was not supposed to go to all and sundry, it was for this list as the list had been discussing related matters when I added my experience.
Anyway, enough said.
In short, my money is going to CELTEL, and here is the mathematical reason why.
We have already seen how with MTN before I used to spend 210,000/= per month and get 650 minutes of airtime and now I am to spend 220,000/= per month to get 645 mins of airtime.
With CELTEL If I use the same baseline figure I would spend 220,000/= per month and get 647 mins (at 340/= per min)
If I were to switch to Mango, then I would either use Mango Standard (at a rate of 340/= per min) or Mango Xtra (at a rate of 330/= per 45 seconds which works out to 330*60/45 = 440/= per min).
So Standard would have me spend 220,000/= per month and get 647 mins
Xtra would have me spend 220,000/= per month and get approximately 500 mins
AND remember that both Mango and Celtel offer data for their pre-paid/pay as you go customers (and from the calculations above Mango and Celtel are at the same level). And data was very important to me.
BUT the devil is always in the details.
The assumptions above are the best case scenario and assume that I only call people on the network I will sign-up with (MTN example included)
As stated in the earlier email, this phone is for business. My self-analyzed calling pattern shows that about 70-80% of my calls are on the MTN network with the rest on other networks.
So I took the average rate for calling other networks (for each network separately) and put in the numbers and here is what I get.
At 80% calls to MTN (spending 220,000/= per month. 80% is my worst case scenario)
MTN: I spend 160,000/= at 310 = 516 mins and then 40,000/= at 380/= gives 105 mins for a total of 621 mins (remember only 200,000/= on airtime and 20,000 on monthly fees)
Celtel: Since one rate to all networks I still get 647 mins for my 220,000/=
Mango: 154,000/= at 420 gives 366 mins plus 44,000/= at ((430 + 340) /2) = 385 gives 114 mins for a total of 480 mins
So as you can see CELTEL is by far the winner in my case (your milage may vary depending on which network your clients are on).
The only thing I cannot fathom is that it is more-pocket-friendly to call MTN from CELTEL than from MTN itself under the new Kapyata system no matter what calling ratio you apply!!!!.
IT IS CHEAPER ON YOUR POCKET TO CALL MTN FROM CELTEL THAN FROM MTN ITSELF!!!! please repeat last message until it sinks in!!!
If I was in MTN Senior management someone would loose their job!
MTN Senior managers should all switch to CELTEL and save money, like me :=) :=)
In all seriousness I think all the sales and marketing people of all the Mobile companies should be on the same "pay as you go" as their clients. Then if they are subsidized by their company they get their subsidy as a lump sum at the end of the year. They have to pay the rates their clients do all year and feel the pain of their clients and not come up with crap like Kapyata.
