Guys
Lets see how daft people can get. I picked out the following from the
article;
<article>
The Linux operating system is developed by an open source process. With
the knowledge that Linux is going to control our most advanced defense
systems, foreign intelligence agencies and terrorists can easily
infiltrate the Linux community to contribute subversive software.
</article>
I shudder to imagine that this guy is actually a CEO of an American
software company. Does Greenhill Software Technologies have a future at
this rate? How can you say that terrorists will infiltrate Linux? The
overall essence of Open Source is that any one can view the code and
make appropriate changes. So unless if the US Dept Of Defence lacks the
know how (which I highly doubt), this is a cooked up excuse. How daft
!!!!
<article>
One of the greatest misconceptions about Linux is that the free
availability of its source code ensures that the "many eyes" with access
to it will surely find any attempt at sabotage. Yet, despite the "many
eyes," new security vulnerabilities are found in Linux every week in
addition to dozens of other bugs. Many of these flaws have eluded
detection for years. It is ridiculous to claim that the open source
process can eradicate all of the cleverly hidden intentional bugs when
it can't find thousands of unintentional bugs left lying around in the
source code.
</article>
Its a pity that this "CEO" does not understand that software evolves and
as part of any evolution process, faults are discarded while the strong
areas are consolidated further. He should be sane enough to know that
the law which goes something like "what can go wrong, will always go
wrong..." (can some one correct me here) is true. Even in his own
company, whatever "software" they produce certainly undergoes changes
based on the bugs discovered over time. His argument of "intentional"
bugs holds no water because with the wide sample space of prying eyes
into Open Source Software, the changes of an intentional bugs are far
less than those for Closed Source software. Oh my God !!!
And they proudly sign off by saying:

"Although about 3 million computers get sold every year in China, but
people don't pay for the software," he said. "Someday they will, though.
As long as they are going to steal it, we want them to steal ours. They'll
get sort of addicted, and then we'll somehow figure out how to collect
sometime in the next decade." Bill Gates as Quoted by C|Net News.com
