the best way to beat competition is to know what it has to offer. Me
thinks that he is also well suited to test alternatives since he is the
head of security and he stands to learn a few tips from the "opposition"
which he can then share with his team.

PS: Thats why M$ will keep making the big bucks for a long time to come.
They eat humble pie and take time to follow up whats cooking elsewhere :)
