"Like many others, I'd been interested in trying something a bit faster than the old dialup, but until recently every plan I'd looked at was either hideously overpriced or had a ridiculously small data limit, sometimes both. Complaints about the phone line being constantly tied up forced me into taking another look at the available options--it was either ditch the dialup or pay for another phone line. I was pleasantly surprised to find that prices had dropped for plans from many ISPs, and that reasonable usage limits were also available. I still wouldn't go so far as to call broadband access in Australia cheap, but at least it was becoming a realistic option. After doing a few sums, I decided to stick with the single phone line and give ADSL a go. Unfortunately, most ISPs supply little or no information related to setting up ADSL under Linux, so I decided to document my experience. And here it is...
