Probably not until a couple of guys at Apple get off the face of the earth. (Hopefully not in a long time!)
Linux's biggest weakness: The Desktop. It keeps getting better, but still the fundamental design doesn't seem right. And am not convinced that the current OS models being used to develop Gnome and such work well in the Desktop world (where a good dose of artistic genius + keen attention to detail is a requirement).

Most of us use what we have to use, not what we'd like to (well, this: http://www.apple.com/displays/ (30" one) for instance!). Given a choice between Windows and Linux desktop, I choose Linux any day. However it is really rather wishful for the Linux community to think they are anywhere close to OSX Panther (let alone Tiger). Not on the Unix Desktop systems front, not in years.

A headline like that is bound to draw the ire of the Macintosh faithful.
After all, since Microsoft, which can marshal its forces and target
competitors at will with lethal precision, hasn’t finished-off Apple
after all these years (and I’m not saying that this was necessarily a
Redmond goal), how on earth can an operating system like Linux spell
trouble for Apple?

"After putting down the Mac last year because of a failed attempt to try
the switch (incompatibility with my company’s virtual private network
was the culprit), I’m giving it another try and can report that--thanks
to the recent Panther OS (I was on Jaguar before)--I’ve been nearly
Windows-free for long enough to say the switch is technically possible
for most people (more on that later)...
