I think they should have done it sooner - justifying buying a GSR or 7206-VXR just to mitigate DDoS attacks doesn't make sense from a cost-benefit perspective. The smaller boxes should have been powerful enough right from the get-go. I'm sure vendors E, J and F are giving them a run for their money, especially with all this 'outsourcing' in the recent years. It's time to sell more power for the same price, or as the market-heads say, more value for money.
