The problem here is short term thinking by some African investors in the SAT
3 cable. These companies made high investments in the infrastructure but
do not yet have a full national network to distribute this high bandwidth.
However they need to make the money to honor the bank payment's and thus
look at the few clients they have today to make that money.

A holistic view to the problem however could help these companies distribute
this bandwidth, in Nigeria a new company has set up a Satllite hub and is
selling internet service to west Africa via satellite creating good
competition to sevices like Afsat's iway.

So yes if we do not have a good plan for the bandwidth, we should worry
about the eassy project. The setup costs will always be there and someone
somewhere has to pay for this.

As I keep saying the "Digital Divide" for us Africans is still our heads.

There a number of solutions available to ensure that we grow our markets to
volumes that will eventually bring the cost of bandwith down to bearable
numbers. Was about to say acceptable but knowing us africans the only
acceptable number will always be $0.00 per kb. ( yet another factor of the
"digital divide" in our heads)

Regards
