Just in time for CeBIT, Germany's Ministry of the Interior (BMI) has published an expanded edition of its Migrationsleitfadens (Migration Guidelines). This paper, first published in 2003, discusses the migration of software components on servers and workstations to free and proprietary software, underscoring the goal of the Ministry of the Interior to promote a variety of software used by public officials. The migration guidelines, which contain practical tips on migration in addition to technical information, have been downloaded more than 100,000 times. Among other things, this new edition is to contain new information about various operating systems, interoperability between office suites, and economic and legal aspects. It will also be sold in stores soon......
