In your Home dir,
there should be a file .xinitrc . Check in this file and look for the
lines that look like:

    elif test -x /usr/X11R6/bin/startkde ; then
        WINDOWMANAGER=/usr/X11R6/bin/startkde

Edit it to point to the location startkde [you will need to check],
most probably
/opt/kde3/bin/startkde

Then run 'startx' on command line to see if your kde will load
successfully. If it does, just make sure that the xserver is enabled
to start on boot and that your system will load to that runlevel.
